It’s October, which means it’s officially Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month (MUAM)! MUAM was established to help provide the public with a better understanding of ultrasound and the many uses of this fast-growing technology in providing diagnosis and prevention for diseases.

Ultrasound is extremely versatile and has many uses in health care. Although much of the general public is familiar with the use of medical ultrasound during pregnancy, many people are unaware that ultrasound can be used throughout all stages of life and for various medical indications.

Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month provides ultrasound professionals with the opportunity to educate the public about the many uses of this fast-growing technology, as well as a chance to celebrate their profession.

Ultrasound at Cottage Hospital:

General and Vascular Ultrasound – 
·Abdominal exams to include liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidneys
·Small parts to include testicular, thyroid and soft tissue exams
·OB/GYN – fetal assessment, women’s reproductive health
·Vascular – venous assessment for DVT and insufficiency, carotid artery evaluation, renal and abdominal Doppler
·Echocardiograms 
·Procedure Guidance
